A Few Scams for College Students to Be Aware Of
There is a group of internet scammers who are targeting students who illegally download music, books and video. It has been reported that a fake collection agency sent out letters to Bucknell College students demanding $500 to settle the alleged illegal downloads.
The FTC is warning students against advisers and web services that charge big fees in return for assistance in locating scholarships. Some students have reported that they have been sent very official looking papers that were ads for expensive loans. The FTC tells students to stick with low cost and legitimate student loans.
There are many online universities who have great sounding names, but they are luring students with offers of credit for life experience and inexpensive degrees. Students should ask colleges for proof of accreditation before signing up for any college level program, especially on the internet.
It is very easy to cheat in college these days thanks to the internet so schools are now using software such as TurnITIn, and web honey pots to quell this increase in cheating that is happening all across the U.S.
