Accreditation and Standardization

Some believe that one of the reasons that there is such a wide disparity in the quality and delivery of education in the United States is that there is no centralized entity that determines a universal curriculum for all students to follow. In most cases, each state has oversight over its localities and are accountable to the Department of Education.

In an effort to standardize the quality of education being provided to students, accreditation was introduced as the measure by which students, parents, researchers and academic administrators could gauge the performance of schools and make sure they maintained at least a basic level of academic standards.
