Advice for Community College Students
Community colleges are more popular than every and nearly half of all college students are enrolled in one. President Obama will soon announce a new community college initiative that will provide government funding for these schools and increase the number of students who attend them. If you are in community college, there are a few things that you can do to make the most of your time there.
Be sure not to work too hard. Most college students who attend community colleges are working at the same time, so be sure you make a plan that balances your work and schooling.
You should be sure to know the differences in the degrees that community college offers. An A.A.S. is an associate in applied science degree and a A.A. Is an associates in arts. Ask your counselor to fully explain the difference between all of the degrees offered.
It is also very important that you know what classes will transfer to a four year school. There is not much sense to take several college classes if they will do you no good when you are ready to move onto a four year school.
A final word of advice is to be sure to attend every class. In community college, attendance can count for up to 40 percent of your grade.
Community colleges these days offer a great alternative to getting your college degree, and with a little knowledge about how this type of school works, you should sail through without a problem.
