Attending College with the Help of College Summit
A United States government survey has shown that a person who has obtained a college degree earns one million dollars more in his lifetime compared to the person who only has a high school diploma. That is a significant amount of money.
How does a student go about getting into college? How hard is it to get accepted? Which college to choose?
College Summit is a non-profit organization out of Washington, D.C. that helps kids get to college—especially disadvantaged kids whose parents did not attend college themselves. College Summit works with high schools in 10 states. The students are assisted in reaching college education deadlines and the program uses a boot camp to propel kids toward college. This boot camp is a four-day program wherein the instructors help the kids envision themselves as college students and as college graduates.
The goal of College Summit is to set higher expectations in high schools and to get students to look at high school as the launching pad to further achievement.
College Summit has a philosophy that states, “not all students may choose a university, but the students should not lose that chance just because a high school program did not prepare them for the opportunity.”
