Career Options for People with Art Degrees

If you are planning on obtaining a degree in Art, you will have a wide selection of career choices upon the successful completion of your college studies.

An art major can find a career as an illustrator. Illustrators create pictures for magazines, books or other publications and for commercial products such as greeting cards, stationery and calendars. Illustrators can also work digitally-preparing their creations directly on a computer.

An art major is also eligible to become scientific or a medical illustrator. This career consists of drawing illustrations of medical conditions or animal and plant life.

A person with an art degree can also become a sketch artist. Sketches are drawn with charcoal or pencil and the finished products are used by police agencies to assist victims in identifying suspects.

Becoming a printmaker is another possibility for an art major. Printmakers create printed images that are used in creating signs.

If you are talented with paints and have a degree in art, you could get a job as a painting restorer. These artists restore damaged and/or faded paintings. Damaged areas on the artwork are retouched and preservatives are added to protect the paintings from further damage.

There are many opportunities for employment if you have a degree in art. You can do a bit of local research in the type of art you specialize in, and with any luck at all, could land yourself a great paying and fulfilling career.
