College Campuses as Seen By Google Maps
A vehicle mounted with an eight foot high camera has been traveling around the campus of the University of Pennsylvania to take panoramic shots of the campus for the Street View feature for Google Maps. This feature gives viewers very detailed, street level views of locations via the internet.
The reason this is being done is to give prospective college students as well as their parents a good look and feel for the campus and it gives students a great way to map out good routes to their classes. It is also a great way for a former student to take a walk down memory lane and remember the campus that they earned their college degree from.
Google has been prowling streets all around the U.S. and the world. The 250 pound vehicle has a cyclist pushing the pedals up front and the camera is mounted on a tower on the back. The tricycle drew stares from onlooking students as it crawled campus footpaths and walkways. Students grabbed for their cell phone cameras to snap the odd looking vehicle as it went about its business.
Check out Google Maps online or Google Earth to see the images they’ve captured of Universities across USA.
