College Grads-Hiring Trends for 2010

Unemployment in the United States is at a 26 year high. A recent survey done by Michigan State University has found that this year is going to be very challenging for college grads as it is predicted that hiring for graduates will decline by 2% over what it was in 2009.

According to the survey, large and medium sized companies are planning on slowing down their hiring rate, although smaller companies are planning to hire more grads. College grads with statistics and environmental science will be in high demand this year although one-third of employers are considering hiring students with any type of college degree.

In the years to come, students who major in sales, account management and customer service will be in high demand as young workers with high levels of enthusiasm and energy are ideal for these types of jobs. College grads should focus their job hunting efforts on smaller companies during the next year or two and they should also be willing to be flexible concerning relocation.

Employers are interested in candidates who are willing to take on a wide variety of responsibilities so college grads should be aware of these facts when applying for jobs.
