Earning a Helping Hand
The Department of Education has estimated that approximately half a million students would be able to qualify to receive Academic Competitiveness and SMART Grants. The Academic Competitiveness grants will provide college students who completed a rigorous course of study in high school with additional funds for their college education.
Generally, students would receive up to $750 during their first year of college and then up to $1,300 during their second year. Eligible students would receive these funds in addition to other federal financial aid like Pell Grants. For parents of students, these additional funds can make a world of difference in helping provide financial support for their college and university students.
