Easing the Stress of College Financial Aid

The Obama Administration is working on making filling out the Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA easier. The FAFSA form is famous for being very difficult to complete. Students who wish to go on to college to earn a college degree, must complete this form if they plan on applying for federal aid.

When the new form goes online it will have about twenty percent fewer questions. Students will not have to repeatedly fill out the same information several times on the form. Every year, millions of Americans must fill out the FAFSA form in order to apply for Pell grants, Stafford Loans, Perkins loans, work study programs and much state aid.

Many people are greatly intimidated by the form. It is estimated that 1.5 million students who were eligible for the Pell grant did not apply. Due to the complexity of the form, there has been a steady emergence of paid consultants who offer to help families complete it.

Lawmakers say that confusing paperwork should not be the reason that qualified students do not earn a college degree. Streamlining the FAFSA is imperative and the change could not have come too soon for millions of Americans.
