Getting Into the AAS Medical Assistant Program

A variety of entry-level positions in health institutions, including general physician’s offices, hospitals, out patient diagnostic centers and medical practices, await the diligent student who completes the AAS Medical Assistant Program.

The associate of applied science degree provides the student with a chance to gain competencies in routine health administrative tasks such as medical transcription, proper management of medical records, insurance coding and billing and bill collections, recording and relaying messages, scheduling patient appointments, along with other tasks.

AAS Medical Assistant graduates are also able to instruct patients, assist and follow up medical procedures. Some subjects of study for the aspiring AAS Medical Assistant include medical terminology, health care laws, medical record filing and retrieval systems, basic anatomy among others.

Successful graduates of the AAS Medical Assistant program can also advance in their professions and be given higher responsibilities as medical office managers.
