NAAL Highlights

Another important area of information that the 2003 National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) highlighted were the influence that literacy has on other developmental factors like employment status, occupation, weekly wage or salary, job training, and participation in public assistance programs. The 2003 NAAL report highlighted the way adults at different literacy levels participate and contribute to their local and national government agencies and community affairs. The report found that generally, individuals that have a higher level of literacy, which usually correlates to their level of education, tend to be more involved with the things that affect their lives and the lives of their community members. These individuals help to shape and influence the policies and events that affect them and by voting, staying informed, and volunteering.
