Pell Grant Recipients Profile
Nearly 37 percent of bachelor’s degree recipients in 1999-2000 received at least one Pell Grant while they were working on earning their college degree. An even higher percentage of Pell Grant recipients either delayed enrolling in college or failed to graduate from high school all together.
The Pell Grant recipients in that school year who had parents that did not go to college took longer to earn a bachelors degree and enrolled in graduate school at lower rates than did recipients who had parents who held at least a bachelor’s degree.
Pell Grant recipients took longer to obtain their degrees than students who did not receive the grant.
This information comes from the Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study and consists of data that was analyzed to determine the time it took the grant recipients to earn a bachelor’s degree and also the percentage of those recipients who actually enrolled in graduate school within a year of graduating from college.
These findings show that there is indeed a difference between Pell Grant recipients and non recipients when it comes to earning a bachelor’s degree.
