Government Pell Grants
Without question, Pell Grants, provided by the federal government, are the largest single source of free funding college and university students receive.
Pell grants are based on financial need and have consistently had the amount raised to help offset the rapidly rising cost of attending college. The Pell grant amount for the 2005-2006 school year ranged from $400 to $4,050 per person.
Factors that determine the amount each student receives include the student’s cost of attendance at their preferred academic institution, family contribution and enrollment status, meaning whether the student will be attending college on a full or part time basis. Students can only receive one Pell grant per award year.
