Texas A&M President Does Poorly in First Evaluation

The president of Texas A&M University Elsa Murano scored low marks for her leadership and management duties in a very critical performance review that was released on Thursday by officials at A&M. Murano is the first female and the first Hispanic president the university has had in its 132 year history and she scored the lowest possible marks in follow-through, being a team player and acting decisively after her first full year as president.

Murano was cited as being “too slow” to make decisions and it was stated that she “fails to assume responsibility for decisions”. The review was conducted by the System Chancellor of the school, Mr. Mike McKinney.  Murano took dispute with the poor review she was given in a ten page typed response that she sent to the chancellor and the regents at the university.

Murano was a popular internal choice to become president in the beginning of 2008 when she replaced Robert Gates who left the position to become the Secretary of Defense for the United States. Many faculty members at A&M were quoted saying that Murano never received mentoring and guidance that she should have gotten for her first year as president.  The faculty members also said that they thought the review was unfair, poorly thought out and hastily done.
