Things to Consider When Hiring A Tutor

There are at least two million tutors in the United States. This makes hiring a tutor for your child a rather confusing and complicated matter.

Many tutors are independent and work solely for themselves. Some tutors work for large firms. No matter in what capacity a tutor works, he or she should all abide by the standards as set forth by the National Tutoring Association. Before hiring a tutor, be sure the tutor is trained and certified.

Be sure to ask the prospective tutor for credentials. This includes teaching certificates, proof of specialized training and references from past clients. The tutor should provide you with a tutorial plan to let you know how he will assess your child and how he will carry out his lessons. Be sure that he agrees to give you regular feedback concerning your child’s progress.

You should ask what professional associations the tutor belongs to. Does he carry liability insurance and is he willing to provide you with proof of a recent background check? These are all things that you should ask for before allowing anyone to teach your child on a one-to-one basis.

It is quite common for students to need some outside help with their school work and tutors are a great resource that many parents take full advantage of. By being a bit selective in your choice, you should do just fine and find the perfect tutor for your child.
