U.S. Suffers in Degree Completion
The Measuring Up 2006 National Report Card on Higher Education shows that the United States ranks at a mere 16 out of 27 total countries that were compared to the proportion of students that actually complete their college or certificate degrees.
Some of the states look very good when compared to other states however, when measured against the performance and degree completion rates of other countries, the United States is trailing the competition. States such as Georgia, California, Texas, Maryland and New Jersey do fairly well when compared to other states but when compared to the degree completion rates in Japan, Portugal, Australia, Switzerland, Denmark and the United Kingdom, our best states rank at the bottom of the list.
