Wasted Millions
Many would be surprised to know that both employers and consumers rarely recognize the difference between a professional certificate and a credential according to the 2005 “Facts for Business†guide issued by the FTC. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) estimated that diploma mills and similar disreputable companies in this industry that offer fake or non-accredited college degrees and professional certifications rake in over $200 million per year. The FTC strongly urges human resources managers and recruiting administrators to beware of fake credentials and verify the academic claims and professional qualifications potential employees may state they have earned through legitimate methods. Taking a few precautions in this area can save a lot of difficulty later on.
