Watch Out for the Quickie Degree
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) identifies the quickie degree as a tell tale sign of a fraudulent academic institutions claims. The FTC defines the quickie degree as follows, “Quickie Degrees. It generally takes time to earn a college or advanced degree — three to four years for an undergraduate degree, one or two years for a master’s degree, and even longer to earn a doctorate. A degree earned in a very short time, or several degrees listed for the same year, are warning signs for the hiring official or the person doing the preliminary screening.†It almost goes without saying that a legitimate college degree program or professional certification takes a reasonable amount of time to obtain, as it should. It takes time and the guidance of experienced education professionals to deliver a high quality education to students even if it is in the form of a structured self-paced study program.
